Mexican Hawthorn

FEATURES:

This small, fast growing semi-evergreen tree is also known as the Mexican Thorn. It is chosen for its attractive flowers and foliage, bright yellow fruits and Autumn color. It is a small, low-branching tree with a rounded crown. Stems are practically thornless and clad with glossy dark green leaves which turn attractive shades of orange and red in Autumn. Fragrant white flowers followed by yellow edible fruit.

COMMENTS:

The Hawthorn can be trimmed as a hedge or used as a windbreak. Suitable to most soil types including clay, prefers lime rich soil in a well drained spot in full sun, mulch and water well. Frost hardy.

TREE CARE:

Plant in a well drained and well worked soil. Take care to plant the bud union above the soil level. Water in well and keep soil moist until tree is established. Fertilize when planting and again after new growth appears. Prune tree when planting to encourage new growth.
