Illawarra Flame Tree

FEATURES:

Illawarra Flame Tree is an Australian native. It has the most beautiful display of scarlet red flowers which appear in late Spring, after the tree has lost its leaves. The attractive leaves are lobed, green and glossy.

Glossy green leaves which are deeply lobed.

FLOWERS:

Scarlet, bell-shaped flowers occur in clusters at the ends of the branches. The flowers are followed by large, leathery seed capsules.

COMMENTS:

This excellent shade tree is one of the most spectacular of all Australia’s native trees. The flowers are attractive to birds. Plant in well drained soil in a sunny position. It is tolerant of dry conditions. Must be protected from frost when young.

TREE CARE:

Plant in a well drained and well worked soil. Take care to plant the bud union above the soil level. Water in well and keep soil moist until tree is established. Fertilize when planting and again after new growth appears. Prune tree when planting to encourage new growth.
